Running count
Hi-Lo assigns low cards a positive value, high cards a negative value, and neutral cards zero. The running count is the live total as cards leave the shoe.
True count
A running count is not enough in shoe games. Divide by decks remaining so a +6 running count means different things in a six-deck shoe versus a double-deck game.
Training order
Build accuracy first with single-card tags, then deck estimation, then true count conversion, then timed drills under pressure.
When counters add a second hand
Most counters stay on one hand in neutral or weak counts. A common practical trigger for adding a second hand is around TC +3 or stronger, assuming bankroll, table rules, and heat make the added exposure acceptable.
